Since I’ve made a concerted effort to begin reading again, I’ve really enjoyed the almost gamification that Goodreads provides. Setting reading targets and giving ratings etc. has added a fun element to my reading.

Here is my reading in 2023. It was pleasing to beat the target I set myself at the start of last year.

So now I set myself new targets, after exceeding my goals last year, a target of a book a week seems achievable.

I also want to set a TBR (to be read) list to hit throughout the year, so in no order here it is:

  • The Hobbit by JRR Tolkien (was reading this over the New Year, now complete)
  • The Lord Of The Rings by JRR Tolkien

    • Knife of Dreams
    • The Gathering Storm
    • Towers of Midnight
    • A Memory of Light
  • Vlad Taltos series by Steven Brust
  • Bronze Rank Brewer by James Ghoul
  • The Bound and the Broken Series by Ryan Cahill
  • Iron Flame by Rebecca Yarros
  • The Riyria Revelations Series by Michael J. Sullivan (already read books 1 & 2)
  • Discworld by Sir Terry Pratchett
  • Earthseed Series by Octavia E. Butler
  • Red Rising Series by Pierce Brown
  • The Riftwar Saga by Raymond E. Feist (already read Magician: Apprentice)
  • Warformed: Stormweaver Series by Bryce O’Connor

Most of the books at the top of the list are on Kindle Unlimited, which I have a deal on until March. I doubt I will make it through all of them before then but hey, they’re essentially free books!

I have a feeling that this list is a little on the long side, and at the moment only really features fantasy fiction books. So I’m sure I’ll add a few palette cleansers in between. I’m also fairly sure I won’t make it through all of Jeff Wheeler’s books before March. My one goal for the year is to finally complete Wheel of Time, it’s a miracle I haven’t spoiled the ending of the story before now but that’s a significant amount of reading in itself (they’re not short books).
