That’s two days of Xi’an done with. I have to say I am not overly keen on this city. It feels massively over-populated. The streets are constantly packed, there are beggars (kids for gods sake) that are so insistent they peruse you down the street. It seems that everyone is “in your face” all the time – it’s not fun. The Chinese aren’t as pleasant as the Japanese either.

That said, we visited the terracotta warriors today and it was worth all the hassle. It’s a pretty amazing scene. I think it will take them hundreds of years to fully excavate what they have already (and they think there are more pits!). Astounding.

I’ve just read that the Pope died. Rest in peace. I didn’t agree with all his views – mostly on contraception where I think his position has caused a lot of death and suffering in the world – however he worked tirelessly for several excellent causes and I believe him to have been a man man with conviction. A sad day.
