Finally getting around to this……

2006 was frankly not the best year of my life. It saw a few really turbulent months and lead to me deciding to leave Japan. I learned precious lessons about friendships and probably am a lot more cynical for them. I learned people I thought I could trust implicitly were not worthy of that trust.

It’s the year I grew tired of being a foreigner in Japan. When I was home in December ad January it was great to be able to walk around without being gawked at. I meet so many people I would like to get to know but the language barrier is normally too much of a problem.

It’s the year my Gran died at the age of 93. It’s strange she’s not there. It’s the year my uncle did so well in his fight against cancer but also saw the beginning of his slide back into ill health. My family need me home now more than anything.

2006 saw no major changes in my life, nothing I will remember forever. I met some new friends that I am very pleased to have in my life. I found out that I would be leaving Onoda to live in Ube.

What of 2007? Well I am leaving Japan in two months and going home. I bought my Mum’s ticket today. I hope to get a decent part time job and get accepted for my teacher training. I hope to help my family through the rough months and years ahead.

On a lighter note I am already shopping around for my computer that I am going to buy on my return. I am super excited about that. I am also looking forward to visiting Tokyo, the last thing on my list of things to do in Japan, and Akihabara. I am looking forward to visiting the sumo village and I hope I can pick up a yukata there.

It’s going to be a busy and no doubt stressful few months. I am looking forward to going on vacation in the summer and reacquainting myself with the Scottish countryside. I still plan to tour round Scotland one summer and really get to know my home country.

I also would love to start learning Gaelic this year. And perhaps look at joining a political party again and getting involved in local politics.

There is a lot to look forward to. There is also a lot to look back on. It’s going to be a busy and strange year ahead.
